Hail of this magnitude can cause significant damage to residential structures:

  • Roofing: From hail, asphalt shingles can suffer from bruising, granule loss, and cracking, compromising the roof's integrity and leading to potential leaks. Wind can left and remove shingles, causing a breakdown in your home's first line of defense against the elements, leading to immediate or future leaks.

  • Aluminum Siding: Hail impacts can dent aluminum siding, affecting both the appearance and lifespan of the exterior cladding. Wind can cause individual panels or sections of panels of vinyl or aluminum siding to tear away from the sheathing. Without a moisture barrier, a house then becomes susceptible to moisture issues including mold and rot.

  • Gutters and Downspouts: These components can become dented or detached, impairing proper water drainage and leading to water damage.

Importance of Professional Inspections

Given the potential for hidden damage, it's crucial for homeowners in the affected areas to have their properties inspected by trained professionals. A thorough inspection can identify issues that may not be immediately visible but could lead to more significant problems over time.

Prompt inspections are also essential for insurance purposes. Many insurance policies have time limits for filing claims after a storm event. A professional assessment can provide the necessary documentation to support a claim and ensure that any damage is addressed promptly.
