What to Expect (and How to Prepare) When Getting Your Siding Replaced

At JP Construction Services, we’ve completed countless siding replacement projects, and we’ve learned that homeowners have a much better experience when they know what to expect ahead of time. Siding installation can temporarily change the rhythm of your day-to-day life — but with a little preparation, it doesn’t have to be stressful. Here’s what to plan for before the crew arrives.

1. Expect a lot of banging — take pictures down and prepare inside
Replacing siding means there’s going to be a lot of banging, hammering, and vibration as materials are fastened to your exterior walls. It’s all part of the process, but it can come as a surprise if you’re not ready for it.
The noise can be loud and sudden, which may scare pets or wake young children.
Don’t feel like you need to stay inside the whole time. If you work from home or are sensitive to noise, it’s perfectly fine to spend the day elsewhere.
Take pictures of the inside of your exterior walls down before work begins. On rare occasions, the vibration can shift shelves or knock light items loose.

We always do our best to work efficiently and minimize disturbance, but being mentally and physically prepared for the noise will go a long way in keeping your day calm.
2. Clear your driveway — expect material deliveries and work vehicles
A typical siding job requires a large quantity of material, and it usually arrives on a double-wide pallet. That pallet, along with our equipment truck or trailer, needs space — and the best spot is usually your driveway.
Clear your driveway the night before siding is scheduled to begin.
The siding pallet is heavy and wide, and placing it on grass can kill your lawn.
With tools, nails, and debris in motion, it’s best to keep cars out of the way to avoid a flat tire or accidental damage.
Alert any visitors or delivery services to park on the street during the project.

Having a clear and accessible driveway makes the entire job go faster and safer — for both your home and our crew.
3. Be prepared for a temporary mess — especially with kids and pets
Siding replacement involves a lot of moving parts and activity around the entire perimeter of your home. It can look chaotic for a few days — and that’s normal.
This is intensive work that happens in a short period of time and within a limited space.
Your yard may look like a temporary disaster zone with old siding, ladders, tools, and packaging scattered around.
If you have children or pets, take extra care to keep them away from work areas. Safety is our top priority, and active job sites aren’t suitable for little feet or paws.
Move patio furniture and yard décor a safe distance away from the house to avoid damage.

It may look messy for a little while, but that’s just part of the transformation. Once the job wraps up, we’ll clean the site thoroughly — and your home will have a brand-new look that’s built to last.
A good contractor will prepare you for all of this
